Update

December 28, 2012

Updated 12/28/12: 215 Sports returns tomorrow!

It has been quite some time since anything has posted and I would like to say that I am deeply sorry for that. I began my first semester of college in September and it has been the reason for why nothing has been posted over the past few months. Unfortunately, school has taken up much of my time. However, I learned a lot over the past three months and will be applying the new things that I learned to the blogs to make them the best they can possibly be. I started by making a new twitter account, follow @itssnick215, where I will be tweeting regularly about not just the Flyers and the Phillies, but the Sixers, Eagles and Union as well. I will also tweet about other stories in sports too and this all starts today, so be sure to follow. As far as posts go, I plan to start writing again a couple days after Christmas and hopefully there will be more content on the blogs than ever before. There will be a lot of changes made to the 215 blogs in the near future and I hope they will all be for the best. I understand that my absence may have caused some frustration or impatience, but to those of you that remain (if there are any) please know that you have my utmost respect. The 215 blogs will return soon and I really hope that they can gain a strong following in the future.

Happy Holidays!

Mayberry's walk-off single lifts Phils over Reds in 11th

August 24, 2012

Box Score (Courtesy of ESPN.com)

mlb.com
Just under four and a half hours into Thursday night's game, both the Reds and Phillies found themselves running out of players, as pointed out by CSNPhilly.com's John R. Finger on Twitter.

  • John R. Finger@jrfingerCSN
the Phillies have zero bench players and two relievers left. The Reds have two relievers and one bench player left.
So, eleven innings in, John Mayberry Jr. solved the incoming problem.

Reds at Phillies: Pre-Game Notes

August 23, 2012

zimbio.com
The Phillies managed only three hits off of Bronson Arroyo on Wednesday night in a 3-2 loss. It was 90's retro night at Citizens Bank Park, but tonight the focus will be on a matchup between two Cy Young Candidates.

Both the Phillies and the Red dawned their early 90's throwback uniforms on Wednesday night, in honor of 90's Retro Night at Citizens Bank Park.

Bronson Arroyo's only win against the Phillies was in 2000, after the decade came to a close. He was a member of the of the Pittsburgh Pirates then.

Arroyo has struggled when pitching against the Phillies ever since. But Wednesday night was a different story.

Reds at Phillies: Pre-Game Notes

August 22, 2012

philly.com
It was a frustrating loss for Cliff Lee and the Phillies, Tuesday night. Tonight, Vance Worley will look to shed his struggles and help the Phillies get over the loss with a win.

Frustrations for Lee continue in 5-4 loss

He slammed his glove on the ground, then held his head in frustration as he walked down the dugout. Cliff Lee had every reason to be mad.

Lee has yet to earn a win at Citizens Bank Park this season and after 6 2/3 innings, he knew he would not get it on Tuesday night.

The shame of it though, is that Lee had yet another solid outing, striking out nine batters. He even got out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth inning with no outs.

Reds at Phillies: Pre-Game Notes

August 21, 2012

The Phillies scored 12 runs in their return home to Citizens Bank Park on Monday night. They will look to keep the hitting going in the second game of a four game series with Cincinnati.

It's Hunter Pence Bobble Head Night at CBP

August 21, 2012

It's another giveaway night at Citizens Bank Park.

Tonight, however, fans will be receiving a gift that is bitter-sweet. A Hunter Pence bobble head.

Horst on paternity leave, Aumont called up

August 21, 2012

brotherlyglove.com
Jeremy Horst is on paternity leave, so to fill his roster spot for the time being, the Phillies called up right-hander Phillipe Aumont.

Aumont was one of the prospects that the Phillies received from the Seattle Mariners back in 2009, when they traded Cliff Lee. He will be the first of the three prospects (Tyson Gillies and J.C. Ramirez are the other two) that the Phillies received from Seattle to make it to the majors.

The 23-year old reliever is 3-1 with a 4.26 ERA in 44.1 innings pitched with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, this season.

His upside? His fastball is in the high 90's.

Phils have offensive outburst in win against Reds

Roy Halladay doesn't usually give up a lot of runs when he is on the mound, but it happened on Monday night.

Doc allowed five runs in seven innings, but that didn't matter, because the Phillies' offense was on top of their game.

Ryan Howard, Erik Kratz and John Mayberry Jr. each homered en route to a 12-5 win.

Kendrick shuts out the Brewers for eight innings

August 19, 2012

The Phillies' 8-0 win on Sunday saw help come from the unlikeliest of places.

Okay, so maybe Kyle Kendrick's performance today wasn't all that unexpected with the way he has pitched lately, but it was still great to see him pitch well.

Phillies at Brewers: Pre-Game Notes

August 19, 2012
philliesgab.com
After dropping the first two games to Milwaukee, the Phillies sent Cole Hamels to the mound  to try and snap their losing streak. Back-to-back homers by John Mayberry Jr. and Erik Kratz, a solid outing by Hamels and Jonathan Papelbon closing in the ninth helped propel the Phils to a 4-3 win. On Sunday afternoon the Phils will look to split the four game series with Milwaukee.

Mayberry, Kratz hit back-to-back homers in Hamels' 14th win

August 18, 2012

Box Score (Courtesy of ESPN.com)

CSNPhilly.com, US Presswire
The Phillies were losers of three straight going into Saturday night's game. But when Cole Hamels is starting, it is reasonable to think that the losing streak won't last.

Hamels threw consecutive complete game shutouts in his last two starts and had not allowed a run in the last 22 innings he has pitched.

The Cole Train gave up three runs to the Brewers. But with help from Jonathan Papelbon, the Phillies won 4-3 and Hamels earned his 14th win of the year.

Phillies at Brewers: Pre-Game Notes

August 18, 2012

philliesgab.com
The Phillies were handed another loss by the Brewers on Friday night. Ryan Braun homered yet again, and Vance Worley's struggles continued in the 6-1 defeat. The Phils will send Cole Hamels, who is on a 22 inning scoreless streak, to the mound to right the ship.

lehighvalleylive.com
Dominic Brown has played very well since being called up by the Phillies, after the trades of Hunter Pence and Shane Victorino at the deadline.

Though viewed as a left fielder, Brown has made a fine adjustment to playing in right. However, he had a lapse on Friday night.

Phillies at Brewers: Pre-Game Notes

August 17, 2012

philliesgab.com
The Phillies were handed another discouraging loss thanks to a dismal bullpen. Josh Lindblom gave up a grand slam to Corey Hart, surrending the Phils 4-3 lead late in the game and taking Cliff Lee's chance at a much needed win. As has been the case since August started, all the Phillies can do is move on, keep playing and finish the season strong.

From 215 Hockey: NFL writer says Phils have 51st best uniforms

August 17, 2012

This was originally posted on 215 Hockey under the headline Flyers have best uniforms according to NFL writer.

I decided to post it here too because the Phillies are right in the middle of this countdown.

The Eagles and the Sixers also earned themselves a spot on the countdown.

NFL.com's Dave Dameshek decided to do a countdown of the best pro uniforms in sports for 2012.

Dameshek's countdown consists of a list of 122 teams in the four major professional sports, not just the NFL.
The Philly teams faired pretty well on his list, especially the orange and black.

Phillies at Brewers: Pre-Game Notes

August 16, 2012

blogspot.com
The Phillies left Miami with with two wins, but ended the series with a dissapointing 9-2 loss that saw the struggling bullpen give up six runs in one inning. The Phillies are in Milwaukee now for a four game series against the Brewers, a team that is also in the midst of an underwhelming season.

Phillies at Nationals: Pre-Game Notes

August 2, 2012

philly.com
After an 8-0 shutout of the Nationals on Tuesday night, the Phillies took Wednesday night's game 3-2 thanks to two solo home runs by Jimmy Rollins, and another solo shot by the Phillies' newest member Nate Schierholtz. Tonight the Phillies will have Cole Hamels on the mound, looking to sweep the NL East leaders on the road.

Cliff Lee placed on waivers, unlikely to be traded though

August 2, 2012

bleacherreport.com
Cliff Lee was another player heavily involved in trade rumors along with Hunter Pence and Shane Victorino.

After the trade deadline past, both Victorino and Pence were traded, but Lee still remained on the team.

Lee was scheduled to start that night and threw seven shutout innings. A fantastic outing in what has been a rough season for Lee, now 2-6 this season, and the Phillies in general.

However, it appears that Cliff Lee is not in the clear just yet.

Phils make one more trade before the end of the day

July 31, 2012

blogspot.com
Phillies beat writer Todd Zolecki reported via Twitter that the Phillies made yet another trade.

Game Notes: Phillies at Nationals

July 31, 2012

mccall.com
It has been a sad trade deadline for the Phillies as they traded away two star outfielders in Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence, which only adds to a disappointing season that leaves them at the bottom of the NL East. Now that a rough series in Atlanta and the trade deadline have passed, the Fightin' Phils need to regroup and finish the season as best as they possibly can. They can start tonight in Washington, where they will face Stephen Strasburg, who is under an innings limit for the season that has not entirley been made clear. All while they do it with a dramatically different outfield.

Welcome to 215 Baseball!

Dear Reader,

Today 215 Baseball officially launches, and I would like to welcome you to check out all the news this blogs has to offer on the Philadelphia Phillies throughout the rest of the Major League Season.  It has, unfortunately, been a rough season for the Phillies. However, the season is not over yet. There is still plenty of headlines for the Phillies to make, especially with the trade deadline quickly approaching. I plan to keep this blog updated daily and make it the best it can posibly be. Hopefully, this blog will become a reliable source for your Phillies related news. I promise to update this blog when a new story presents itself as soon as possible. However, there are some things you should take into consideration when I say that. First of all, I am an incoming college freshman, so I expect that school will be taking up quite a bit of my time. Also, I have a job that keeps me away from a computer. At times it will get tough, but I will do what I can to keep readers updated with all that goes on with the Phillies. This is not the first time that I have kept blogs on Philadelphia Sports Teams. Previously, I ran a series of blogs under the name On the Board Philly, but I had to stop due to some personal issues I had to work out. After I resolved these issues, I decided to start fresh rather than going back after a long absence. Then 215 Sports was born. You can still check out On the Board Philly at these web addresses:

http://ontheboardphilly.blogspot.com/

http://thatphilliesblog.blogspot.com/

http://thatflyersblog.blogspot.com/

In fact, I encourage you to check out those blogs. Although they are outdated, they provide a good example of how this blog, and the rest of 215 Sports, will be maintained. I am not doing this for money or fame, this is just a labor of love from a die-hard Phillies Phan.

Play Ball!
- Nick

P.S.- Also, check out 215 Hockey for Flyers news, and the 215 Sports homepage
