Hamels throws another shutout in 4-0 win

The Phillies were a half game up over the Marlins to avoid last place in the NL East.

Cole Hamels (13-6) distanced the Phillies further from the division basement on Monday night.

Hamels threw his second consecutive complete game shutout in a 4-0 win over Miami. He allowed only five hits and a walk, and struck out five.

Chase Utley hit an RBI double in the third inning to put the Phillies up 1-0, then John Mayberry Jr. reahed first base on an error by Greg Dobbs. Juan Pierre scored on the play to give the Phils a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, Pierre hit a triple to score Rollins to make it 3-0. Then in the seventh, Dominic Brown scored off of a sacrifice fly by Erik Kratz.

Nate Eovaldi (3-8) pitched five innings in his start for the Marlins, allowing three runs (two earned) off of eight hits.

The Phillies scored their fourth run off of Carlos Zambrano, who pitched two innings for Miami.

The second game of the three game series will be on Tuesday night. Kyle Kendrick (4-9, 4.86 ERA)will start for the Phillies against the Marlins' Josh Johnson (7-8, 3.88 ERA).
