Extras against Nats wastes Kendrick's great start

June 19, 2013

Box Score (From ESPN.com)

By Nick Tricome

Michael Young hit a 2-run shot to left for his third home run of the season and the 1,000th and 1,001st RBIs of his career. The career milestone happened in the bottom of the first inning of Wednesday night's game, and is something that Young can add to an already solid 14-year tenure in the big leagues.

The problem is that it would be the nine more innings before the Phillies got another hit.

With the chance to sweep the National League East rival Washington Nationals, the Phillies lost 6-2 in 11 innings. Despite a lack of offense however, it appeared the Phillies were quickly on their way to their third straight win...Before they got to the ninth inning that is.

Brown makes up for Papelbon's blown save

June 17, 2013

Box Score (From ESPN.com)

By Nick Tricome

The Phillies looked like they had this one in the bag. Top of the ninth, two outs and a 4-3 lead with Jonathan Papelbon on the mound. They had it, but then they didn't.

Chad Tracy hit a solo home run for the Washington Nationals to tie the game. He also gave Papelbon his first blown save of the year in the process.

Papelbon may have blown the save, but Domonic Brown more than made up for it.

With Ben Revere at third and Jimmy Rollins at second, Brown hit a walkoff single into center to give the Phillies a 5-4 win over their National League East rival.

Rough road trip leaves Phils in need of good series against Nats

June 17, 2013

By Nick Tricome

In the series finale against the Minnesota Twins, the Phillies walked away with a 3-2 win with Cliff Lee on the mound. But the Phils struggled to score runs, having lost the prior three games with only six runs scored.

Following the game against Minnesota, Lee reinforced his desire to win when speaking to reporters.

“I definitely want to win," Lee said. "There’s no doubt about that. I want to win. I don’t know how to say it besides that. I want to win.”

Some have taken Lee's words as him being open to a trade, but for at least the series opener against the Colorado Rockies, they could have been a spark.

Phils blow four run lead, lose on walk-off hit

June 7, 2013

By Nick Tricome

Box Score (From ESPN.com)

At one point during Friday night's game, the Phillies were enjoying a 4-0 lead and the chances of them earning their seventh consecutive win looked good with Cliff Lee on the mound. But instead, the game ended with Jeremy Horst giving up a walk-off hit to the Brewers' Aramis Ramirez.

Hey, at least the Penguins are out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Anyway, back to baseball.

Much like the night before, the Phillies scored their runs early. However, unlike Friday night, they couldn't sustain the lead and let the Brewers escape with a 5-4 win.

It took the Phillies quite a few tries to get to the .500 mark, but it only took them one to get above it.

The Phillies, with newly arranged lineup that put Michael Young in the lead-off spot, beat the Brewers 5-1 to  give themselves a winning record for the first time since October 1 of last season. Thursday night's win was also the team's fifth straight.

Update: We're Back!

June 6, 2013

It took some time, but I'm finally back to updating 215 Sports again! I have some help this time too! My friend, Mike Patterson, will now be helping me write for the blog. Content should be added more regularly now with Mike in the mix.

In addition, adding Mike also allows 215 Sports to expand. A new page called 215 Basketball will open up on the blog soon. Mike will do the best job he possibly can to keep you up to date with the 76ers on the new page.

Phillies coverage will resume tonight with the opener of a four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Flyers coverage will start up again after the Stanley Cup Finals end and Sixers coverage will follow the same  route, starting after the NBA Finals.

Now we jut need to find an Eagles and a Union writer and we're set! If you're interested, e-mail me.

Once again, I apologize for the halt in coverage. I'm very sorry that I had to stop posting for a while and I cannot thank you enough for your patience.

Go Flyers! Go Phillies! And now, go Sixers!
