With a 7-3 win the Phillies took the series against the Atlanta Braves, and fought back to 7.5 games out of first place in the National League East.
Up next, a very underperforming Washington Nationals team for four games at Citizen Bank Park.
Young 2013 surprise Jonathan Pettibone took the mound against a Braves offense who scored 13 runs the night before. Kris Medlen opposed him.
Phillies minor league slugger Darin Ruf also made his first start at first base in 2013, following Ryan Howard’s trip to the DL.
Dominic Brown, the newly name All-Star, was in celebration mode as he hit an RBI triple in the first inning to take the early lead.
Delmon Young piled on another run in the same inning with an RBI single of his own.
The Phillies also scored in the fourth inning with a two RBI triple by Ben Revere.
In the fifth Brown smashed his 23rd home run of the year to right field.
A final run was given to the Phillies on a wild pitch by the Braves.
Jonathon Pettibone gave up five hits and one earned run, striking out six, cooling down a hot Braves Lineup.
In the seventh inning though, relief pitcher J.C. Ramirez got lit up, giving up four hits and two runs, led by a home run by Braves third basemen Chris Johnson and an RBI single by right fielder Jason Heyward.
After a short momentum switch, Antonio Bastardo was able to throw a solid eighth, striking out the side.
Finally Jonathon Pabelbon got the call in a non-save situation, where he succeeded in setting down the Braves in order to win the game and the series.
Pettitbone earns his fifth win on the year, moving to 5-3 on the year. Medlen suffers the loss, falling to 6-8.
The Phillies take the first series of the big homestand, now we need to see what this team can really do against Washington.
