Wednesday's Headlines: Phils bounce back, Adams probably done

June 26, 2013

By Nick Tricome

The Phillies bounced back from a tough loss the night before, but probably lost their setup man for the rest of the year.

Phils bounce back behind Kendrick, Brown

Monday night's 4-3 loss to the Padres was a tough one to swallow, and with a loss that demoralizing, it would have been tough to bounce back from.

Luckily, Kyle Kendrick and Domonic Brown helped right the ship in a 6-2 win on Tuesday night.

Kendrick put together a great start, striking out six batters in eight innings pitched.

The Padres scored only two earned runs on him in the second to jump out to a 2-0 lead early, but that wouldn't last long.

With two outs and runners at the corners in the third, Domonic Brown, who hasn't hit a home run since June 8, crushed one over the wall in right center field to put the Phillies up 3-2.

Then in then in the top of the fifth, Brown would drive in another run.

With the bases loaded, Padres' starter Jason Marquis walked Brown, which scored Jimmy Rollins from third to make it 4-2.

Marquis' day would end after that at-bat, with Brad Brach coming into pitch against John Mayberry Jr.

A wild pitch allowed Chase Utley to score, then a sacrifice fly to center field brought home Ryan Howard.

The Phillies hung on to the four run lead for the win and will wrap up their series with San Diego on Wednesday night. Cole Hamels will be on the mound against San Diego's Robbie Erlin.

Adams' season probably over

Mike Adams was examined bDr. Neal Elattrache in Los Angeles on Tuesday and the results weren't too encouraging.

Adams has three tears in his shoulder, based on what he told CSNPhilly.com's Jim Salisbury.

Surgery is an option, but not a necessity, as a strength and rehab program is also an option. Still, both of those choices would likely cost Adams the rest of the 2013 season.

“This season doesn't look good — highly unlikely,” Adams told Salisbury. “This year is almost probably a no.”
