Nearly a month after returning from the disabled list, reliever Mike Adams is heading back to the 15-day DL with bicep tendonitis.

Reliever J.C. Ramirez has been called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to fill Adams' spot on the roster until he can return.

The 34-year old Adams, who signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the Phillies in the off-season, first hit the DL back in mid-May with a right back strain.

Adams didn't pitch again until May 27, when he allowed a run in two-thirds innings in a 9-3 road loss to the Boston Red Sox.

Adams was brought in by the Phillies to be their eighth inning setup man, but he has run into a bit of trouble this season, with a 1-4 record, a 3.96 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP in 25 innings pitched.

Although Ramirez has been called up, he has also had his struggles pitching in Triple-A.

Despite having a 2-2 record, Ramirez has a very high 6.53 ERA and a 1.945 WHIP in 30 and 1/3 innings pitched. He has also walked 19 batters pitching for Lehigh Valley this season.
