Amongst the cheery feelings of Alumni weekend where Phillies greats like Curt Schilling and Darren Daulton were shown love by the Philadelphia fan base, the Phillies were slowly deteriorating.

The Phillies were trying to avoid losing their fifth series in a row. In an extra inning battle, the Phillies lost to the Braves by a score of 5-4.

John Lannan was set to face a hot Braves team, while Brandon Beachy had the mound against the struggling Phillies.

The Phillies were able to manufacture the first run of the game in the very first inning, when a Chase Utley ground out scored Jimmy Rollins.

In the second inning, the Phillies scored to more runs on a two-run home run by John Mayberrry Jr., his eighth of the season.

The Braves than started to come back. In the third inning, Justin Upton hit a solo home run, his 19th of the year.

In the fifth inning, the Braves score three more runs on a two RBI single by Freddie Freeman and an RBI ground out by Evan Gattis.

In the seventh, the Phillies were able to tie the game at four with an RBI double by Jimmy Rollins, tying Ed Delahanty for most doubles as a Phillie.

The last few innings of the game were a relief pitching masterpiece. The pitching took the game to extra innings. Both the Phillies and the Braves bullpen allowed a hit each, and no runs.

It wasn't until the 12th inning where any offense returned, when Jake Diekman loaded the bases and eventually let up the go ahead run on a RBI fielder's choice by Dan Uggla.

In the bottom of the inning, Braves closer Craig Kimbrel came in to shut the Phillies down. The inning was started by a single from Carlos Ruiz. Kimbrel was able to strike out two of the next three guys to end the game and give the Braves their ninth win in a row.

Luis Avilan picked up the win, while Jake Diekman suffered the loss. Kimbrel picked up his 33rd save of 2013.

The Phillies have lost five series in a row and 12 out of 13 games. They will try to salvage a game in their series against their division leading rival on Sunday.
