Former Phillie Darren Daulton, the catcher for the '93 team that won the National League Pennant, will be undergoing surgery next week, after a trip to the doctor's revealed that he has two brain tumors.
The retired major leaguer hosts a show on 97.5 FM The Fanatic called "Talkin' Baseball with Dutch." The radio station released a statement upon hearing the news.
"Darren Daulton has not been feeling well over the past two weeks. He went to the doctor who discovered two brain tumors and is scheduled for surgery early next week. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this difficult time. Of course we want to respect his privacy at a time like this, but if you would like to send him get well wishes you may do so at dutch@975thefanatic.com"Phillies' President David Montgomery also released a statement via Twitter.
“We’re saddened by the news about Darren. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this time. We, along with our fans, are praying for a full recovery.”The Phillies 25th round pick in 1980 amateur draft, Daulton played for 14 years in Philadelphia starting in 1983.
Daulton was an all-star in 1992, 1993 and 1995. He also won the Silver Slugger award in '92.
In 1,161 games played over his career, Daulton hit .245 with 137 home runs and 588 RBIs.
Daulton finished the 1997 season as a member of the Florida Marlins, who went on to win the World Series.
In 2010, he was inducted into the Phillies' Wall of Fame out in the Ashburn Alley section of Citizens Bank Park.
